UniSC Hiking Club Terms and Conditions

1. Assumption of Risk and Liability

Participation in all club activities, including but not limited to bush-walking, remote camping, and social events, is entirely at your own risk. Outdoor recreation involves inherent dangers, including unpredictable weather, challenging terrain, and wildlife encounters. By registering for and attending any event, you acknowledge that your personal safety, health, and well-being are solely your own responsibility. The club executive committee, event organizers, and fellow participants assume no duty of care and are not liable for any personal injury, death, illness, loss, or damage to property sustained before, during, or after these activities.

2. Medical Fitness and Preparedness

Members must honestly assess their own physical fitness and technical ability against the advertised grading, elevation, and distance of each hike. You are responsible for carrying adequate water, nutrition, personal first aid supplies, and appropriate footwear. Event leaders reserve the right to refuse participation to anyone who arrives improperly equipped, as unpreparedness compromises the safety and timeline of the entire group.

3. Financial Policies and Refunds

To sustain administrative operations and secure external bookings, the following financial agreements apply to all participants:

  • Membership Fees: All annual membership dues are strictly non-refundable once processed, regardless of attendance frequency throughout the year.
  • Event and Excursion Fees: Payments made for specific hikes, transit bus hire, or camping spots are non-refundable. An exception is only granted if you cancel with sufficient notice and another eligible participant successfully takes and pays for your reserved space before the event commences.

4. Environmental Stewardship and Conduct

All members must adhere strictly to standard “Leave No Trace” principles. All rubbish must be carried out, and participants must respect local flora, fauna, and cultural heritage sites. Inappropriate, reckless, or destructive behavior may result in the immediate revocation of membership without a refund.
